Mayor’s Biography

Since 1966, Mentor-on-the-Lake has been governed as a charter city, operating under a Strong Mayor form of government.  The Mayor serves as the city’s Chief Executive Officer and Safety Director.  The Mayor is responsible for seeing that all laws, resolutions and ordinances of the city and state are enforced.

Mayor Eva has lived in Mentor-on-the-Lake since 1969 and attended the newly built Lake Elementary School.  He is a 1978 graduate of Mentor High School and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University where he majored in accounting.  Mayor Eva currently lives on Sequoia Court and has two sons, Eric and Andrew.

Originally appointed to the Parks and Recreation Board by Mayor Rogers in January of 2003, he also served on City Council from 2004 until he was appointed as Mayor.  As a City Councilman, Mayor Eva was the Council Representative to the Parks and Recreation Board and the Board of Zoning Appeals as well as Council Vice-President and President.

Dave was appointed as the city’s 20th Mayor in December 2012.  He was elected Mayor in 2013 and re-elected, running unopposed, in 2019.  Mayor Eva’s term runs through 2023.
