Full-time Firefighter/Paramedic:

All Full-time employees are hired under the Mentor-on-the-Lake Civil Service Commission with the exception of the Fire Chief.  Only Current part-time employees are eligible to be promoted.  Candidates must pass a written examination, physical agility test, and a variety of screening procedures before being put on the eligibility list.  The eligibility lists are good for two years from the date of certification.

Job requirements and conditions of employment include

  • Applicants must be State of Ohio Certified Firefighter level II prior to being hired.
  • Applicants must be State of Ohio Certified EMT-Paramedic prior to being hired.
  • Must be in possession of a current certificate of completion of the Physical Agility test from Cuyahoga Community College.


Part-time Firefighter/Paramedic:

The City of Mentor-on-the-Lake accepts applications for part-time firefighter/paramedics all-year-round.

Job requirements and conditions of employment include:

  • Applicants must be State of Ohio Certified Firefighter level II prior to being hired.
  • Applicants must be State of Ohio Certified EMT prior to being hired.
  • Must be in possession of a current certificate of completion of the Physical Agility test from Cuyahoga Community College.
